Welcome to the Esperanto website for Geneva and nearby Regions!
We hope your visit means that you are interested in
learning Esperanto. It is very easy to learn - the grammar has only 16 rules, there are no exceptions and it is very logical. It is also great fun
and a wonderful way of meeting people of all nationalities without having any language barrier. There is a great feeling of fraternity
when you speak to someone in Esperanto - after all, you are speaking the same language - our language.
There are many possibilities for learning Esperanto, the easiest being the Internet. There are many free courses, e.g. the one offered by
Lernu (see Internet address above). If you prefer a class, the Université Populaire de Genève organizes courses at
several levels. Here are the details:
Address: 23 rue du Vuache, 1201 Genève (behind Collège Voltaire)
Tel: 022 339 05 00
Fax : 022 339 05 09
E-mail : info@upcge.ch
Internet address: www.upcge.ch
Level I, Thursday 18h00 -19h30
Level II, Wednesday 18h00 - 19h30
Level III: Conversation course, Tuesday 18h00 to 19h30
If you want to practice in an informal atmosphere, the Monday group meets every Monday at 18h00 in the Brasserie
aux Cheminots, 7 rue des Gares (behind the Cornavin Station near the Montbrillant Post Office).
So if you would like to know what Esperanto sounds like, and better still, practise the language
the group is open to beginners and anyone who likes to chat and would like to improve their spoken Esperanto. Everyone is welcome on condition that they are not too serious! But beware!
... NE KROKODILU! We do try to speak
in Esperanto most of the time!
When you have a basic knowledge of Esperanto, you can go to the Home page and check the other activities in the region as well as links to
useful websites. If you would like to see what a news site looks like, have a look at the Ĝangalo site - see link above.
If you are interested in the history of the language, the following site gives a comprehensive description:
History of Esperanto
and many other sites can be found via your search engine.
The site of the Esperanto Association of Great Britain (EAB)
contains more general information and many useful links (see above).

In neighbouring France there are also many lively groups -
